Okasho, a long-established Kyoto restaurant with over 130 years of tradition, was founded in 1887 as a fresh fish and general goods store.
Located near Toji Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site (World Cultural Heritage), the restaurant is highly popular among international guests as a family-friendly (children welcome) and group-friendly establishment.
Combining creativity, seasonality, beauty, and high-quality ingredients, Okasho offers a taste of the essence of Japanese culinary culture. All of its dishes, ranging from tempura, sushi, and kaiseki cuisine to sashimi, are prepared using traditional methods while incorporating modern elements. This fusion, along with elegant presentation and tableware, allows traditional dishes to evolve into contemporary ones.
The restaurant is housed in a building rich with the charm and ambiance of Kyoto, and features private rooms on both the first and second floors. One standout experience is the “Ozashiki (Tatami Room) Tempura”, where guests can enjoy tempura cooked right before them in a private room, indulging in the sound and aroma within their own intimate space.
Its proximity to Toji Temple and JR Kyoto Station makes Okasho the perfect place to visit for a meal while enjoying Kyoto’s atmosphere and sightseeing.
